Headlines of the day II: Political business as usual

Both our stories comes from the McClatchy Washington Bureau.

First, costly hypocrisy:

Mike Huckabee has to pay $25,000 for using ‘Eye of the Tiger’

  • Failed Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee used “Eye of the Tiger” at a campaign event
  • Huckabee tried to claim the event was a religious assembly when the writer of the song sued him
  • But he had already listed the event as a campaign expense and had to pay $25,000 for using the song

And then there’s this:

Donor promised to make Clinton ‘look good’ if appointed to board

  • Rajiv Fernando lobbied top Clinton aide for a seat on sensitive intelligence board
  • He had little experience in the field and resigned after appointment was scrutinized
  • The Chicago businessman donated to Clinton, Obama and the Clinton Foundation
