Headline of the day: Politics & strange bedfellows

From the McClatchy Washington Bureau:

Evangelicals have qualms with Trump, but see nowhere else to turn

  • What happens when the presumptive nominee himself is at odds with the GOP’s core religious values?
  • Some say Trump has just one saving grace: His promise to put conservatives on the Supreme Court
  • ‘I’m not voting for a Sunday school teacher. I’m voting for a president.’

Following up, from The Lip TV a deft takedown  of Trump’s bizarre appeals to evangelicals:

Trump Talks Jesus, Forgiveness, and Himself

Program notes:

Donald Trump said he will ask God for forgiveness, but hopefully not much, in an interview with conservative columnist Cal Thomas published Wednesday. Trump was responding to a question about a comment he made during an appearance at the Family Leadership Summit last summer that he has never asked God for forgiveness, but that he does take communion. In the interview, Thomas also asked Trump, “Who do you say Jesus is?” We look at Trump’s thoughts on forgiveness and Jesus on the Lip News with Elliot Hill and Mark Sovel.
