Charlemagne’s cathedral, interior

Charlemagne to the Germans, Kaiser Karl to the Germans, and Carolus Magnus to the pope who anointed him as emperor on Christmas Day in 800 C.E.,  built the first great cathedral in Northern Europe at his imperial seat in Aachen, Germany. Subsequent additions at later periods greatly altered the building, but this image was captured in the part Kaiser Karl built.
