How does Hollywood manage to keep a $430 million tax break?
The only thing the writer of the article says in support of his position that the tax break to prevent productions from going out of the country to film is a single statement that there’s “scant evidence that it works.”
Even if I hadn’t worked in the film industry for 20 years, and known by experience that it DOES work, I would still be able to call BS on a global position taken with no supporting facts. If he or you had been in the biz during the 80s and 90s to see the vast number of shows relocating to Vancouver, Europe and Asia before this tax incentive was provided, you might feel differently about it. What the tax break does nowadays is help the right-to-work states attract productions. They still leave Hollywood, but at least they remain in the country.
